Fort Leavenworth, Kansas is the oldest continuously active military reservation west of the Mississippi River. This historic post is noted for the campus-like setting, open green spaces and hometown character. Fort Leavenworth is home to the Military Corrections Complex, consisting of the United States Disciplinary Barracks, the Department of Defense's only maximum security prison, and the Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility. In addition, the Fort Leavenworth Garrison supports numerous tenant organizations that directly and indirectly relate to the functions of the Combined Arms Center (CAC), including the United States Army Command and General Staff College and the Foreign Military Studies Office. Barton has been designated as a Military Friendly School.
Fort Leavenworth is located in Leavenworth County, Kansas, immediately north of the city of Leavenworth in the upper northeast portion of the state. It is the oldest active United States Army post west of Washington, D.C., having been in operation for over 180 years. Fort Leavenworth has been historically known as the "Intellectual Center of the Army".
Barton Community College's proud association with Fort Leavenworth and the U.S. Army started in the early months of 2012, with the first college program classes conducted on October 22, 2012 and first LSEC classes conducted on October 29, 2012. With the support of the Army Education Center and the Army leadership on post, the Barton Fort Leavenworth campus has continued to grow in support of the Army, its soldiers, their families, and the Fort Leavenworth community. The Barton Community College Fort Leavenworth campus provides education and training, as well as selected specialized education and training to students on post and the surrounding community. The campus provides instructional services for LSEC, Evening/weekend College Courses, and BSEP.
The Fort Leavenworth campus office is located in 120 Dickman Avenue, Building 62, Room 4. The main office is at the same level with the post Education Center which is one floor below the Child Development Center.
